IT director seeks demo, court delays decision on switching Granicus to Civic Plus

Grimes County’s IT director, Greg Cannon, asked the commissioners court on April 2 to consider moving the county’s agenda and meeting hosting from Granicus to CivicPlus, citing repeated support failures and better usability.
Cannon said CivicPlus offers an integrated agenda and meeting platform and that the company can migrate archived videos and minutes. Cannon told the court CivicPlus estimated about a four‑month implementation window and said the vendor suggested a 50% up‑front payment to begin implementation, with the balance due Oct. 1.
Several commissioners said they had not seen a demonstration of CivicPlus and asked to view a demo before authorizing any contract changes. Commissioner David Tullis requested a live demonstration and examples of counties that use CivicPlus; IT offered to provide video examples and to schedule a live demo. Commissioner Michael Rasca said Granicus was chosen in 2021 after demonstrations and that at least two current commissioners had not seen alternatives.
Court action: the court took no final action on item 17 and directed staff to arrange demos and reference installations for commissioners who had not seen CivicPlus. Cannon said the vendor indicated the county’s existing encoders and cameras should be compatible and that worst‑case additional hardware would likely be minimal.
