Ocala HPAB tables garage-door replacement at 1019 SE Third Street after applicant absence

The Ocala Historic Preservation Advisory Board on March 25 tabled action on a Certificate of Appropriateness application to replace a garage door at 1019 Southeast Third Street after the applicant did not appear.
Bria Miller, Planner II for the City of Ocala, told the board the applicant sought to “replace the existing garage door with a carriage house style garage door from the courtyard collection” at a property whose main house — built in 1928 — is a contributing structure in the Ocala Historic District. Miller said the subject garage is not contributing and was built in 2006, and that staff found the proposed replacement “is consistent with the Secretary of the Interior Standards” and recommended approval of COA 25-0007.
During questions, a board member confirmed the proposed door “is the actual door that they submitted,” and Miller reiterated the replacement was “more appropriate for the time period of the home than the garage door that is existing today.” When asked, Miller said she had received no letters of objection.
Because the applicant did not come forward when called, the board moved and seconded to table the item. The board chair called the vote and the motion carried; the matter was formally tabled for a future meeting.
The staff report submitted to the board cites the Secretary of the Interior Standards and the City of Ocala Historic Preservation Ordinance, section 94-82(g), as the basis for the staff recommendation. The board did not take a final vote on the COA; no conditions were recorded other than tabling the application.
Copies of the staff report and the applicant’s proposed door images are part of the meeting packet; the board will consider the item again when the applicant appears or provides additional information.
