Carlsbad commission sets North Beach cleanup for July 12, 2025

At its April 2 meeting the Carlsbad Beach Preservation Commission voted to hold the first 2025 city-controlled North Beach cleanup on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Commissioners selected July 12 from three options presented by staff (June 28, July 11 and July 12) and said they preferred a Saturday after Fourth of July holiday traffic.
The cleanup will cover the city-controlled north end (access at Rue Des Chateaux / Ocean Street) and the south end access at Ocean Street and Oak Avenue. Nick Stupin, the city’s parks planning manager, told the commission the typical window for the event is 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and that outreach will include the city website, social media, an e-blast to designated volunteers and a press release.
Stupin said the city typically partners with regional groups and lagoon foundations and will notify local high schools that often seek volunteer hours. Commissioners requested invitations to the Buena Vista Lagoon foundation and suggested placing an item in the city manager’s report the week before the event to increase turnout.
A motion to schedule the cleanup was made and seconded on the record; the commission confirmed the choice by keypad and by affirmative head nods. Staff will proceed with outreach and partner coordination.
