The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners agreed to continue a rezoning request for property on Linden Drive to the May 6 land-use hearing after the petitioner was not present for the public hearing.
Staff described the request as a rezoning from Planned Development Project General Highway Commercial to Planned Development Project General Commercial to allow an automobile dealership (used-vehicle sales) on a 0.9-acre parcel near Spring Hill Drive. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval 5-0 and staff recommended approval with performance conditions.
Neighbors who spoke at the hearing said the property’s existing chain-link fence and visible vehicle storage were degrading the appearance of the nearby residential block. "Could we at least get some kind of requirement to put some slats on that chain-link fence? Because it's bringing down the neighborhood," said resident Don Johnson.
Because the applicant was not present and three commissioners indicated they preferred the petitioner be present for a quasi-judicial hearing, the board set the matter for the next available land-use hearing, May 6. The motion to continue to May 6 passed 4-0.
The board’s continuance preserves the Planning & Zoning record; when the applicant appears on May 6 the board will again take public comment and may adopt staff and P&Z conditions or take other action.
