At its meeting the Clay County Historical Preservation Board accepted the resignation of member Deidre Murphy and welcomed a new member, Kathy Cass. The board also handled several officer and procedural items.
The board opened by approving the previous meeting’s minutes by voice vote. Chair Billy Gould conducted the roll-call-style proceedings that followed.
The board noted that Deidre Murphy had been performing work on the Keystone Heights marker outside of board duties and that with her resignation she would no longer be a board member. Staff said the vacancy created three open seats on the board overall and specifically left the District 4 seat vacant; staff described District 4 as covering the west side of the county from Oak Leaf down to Keystone Heights.
Under the county land development code (Article 7, Section 12-7), the board discussed formation of a nominating committee to propose officers in April and nominate candidates for selection in June; staff said with the current smaller membership the board could accept volunteers rather than a larger committee.
Because Murphy’s resignation left the vice-chair position vacant, the board appointed Melissa Generally to serve as interim vice chair until the next stated election in June. The motion to appoint Melissa was made from the floor and carried by voice vote.
A motion was also made to nominate Billy Gould to continue as chair for another year; that nomination carried by voice vote. Members then nominated Sean for vice chair and that nomination likewise carried by voice vote.
Staff reminded the board that the clerk’s office handles secretary duties and that members with terms expiring in July may apply to continue their service. Staff also said they would bring a budget-and-focus discussion to the next meeting to allow the board to plan work for the coming year.
