UN says investigation underway into March attack on UNOPS compound in Gaza; staff safety and operations continue

At a United Nations press briefing on April 3, a UN staff member provided an update on an attack against a UNOPS compound in Gaza on March 19 and said an investigation is underway.
The moderator said the secretary-general condemned the March 24 attack and stated that preliminary findings indicate the incident involved a projectile from outside the building rather than an in-building booby trap. "The thing that we can state is that it certainly was a projectile from outside. It was not a booby trap in the building," the moderator said. He added that the United Nations Department of Safety and Security is leading the investigation with participation from UNOPS and UNMAS and that many interviews have been completed.
The moderator said six UN personnel were in Gaza as of the morning of the briefing and that operations are continuing in a limited posture similar to conditions before the ceasefire; UN teams have carried out investigative tasks such as the mission that looked into the killing of health workers. The moderator said the Department of Safety and Security would provide updates when available.
Officials at the briefing emphasized staff safety and that the investigation remains underway; no definitive public findings were released at the press briefing.
