Lago Vista City Council approved a change to the employee handbook clarifying holiday pay rules. Under the revised language, employees who work on a holiday will receive their regular pay plus the holiday compensation (rather than placing that holiday time into a forfeitable bank). The policy also standardizes observance rules for employees on 4-day or 12-hour schedules: when a holiday falls on a day off associated with a nonstandard schedule, the observed date will be set so employees are compensated fairly.
Human Resources, working with the city attorney and department heads, drafted the updated text to reduce administrative complexity and to eliminate recurring forfeiture of accrued holiday pay that had previously occurred when employees could not take banked time. The council asked HR for an annual report detailing how many employees used the provision, hours paid or taken, and departmental breakdowns so council can monitor cost and program performance.
The motion to adopt the revised handbook language was approved unanimously.
