Macon‑Bibb’s industrial authority and local leaders briefed the committee on factors they say support the city’s recent private investment and reinvestment, including water‑supply capacity, manufacturing expansions and cultural tourism assets.
Executive director Steven Adams and board chair Robert Fountain Jr. thanked the committee and noted the Macon Water Authority’s large reservoir and treatment capacity as a foundation for industrial recruitment. Adams said the authority’s storage and treatment capability—described in testimony as a multi‑million‑gallon reservoir with tens of millions of gallons per‑day treatment capacity—has enabled site development and attracted private investment.
Adams told the committee Macon‑Bibb has seen nearly $3 billion in private investment since 2017 and that recent expansions by existing manufacturers have generated more than $1 billion in private investment in a recent period. He also highlighted downtown cultural investments, including a new Otis Redding Foundation facility and a planned FBO facility shaped like a guitar at the local airport, and noted the city’s Main Street America designation and a renewed focus on coordinated economic development across local entities.
Members praised the consolidated government model and the local industrial authority’s role in readying sites and retaining employers. The presentation was informational; no committee vote or action resulted from the remarks.
