Cartersville and Bartow County economic development staff told the committee that years of local capacity building — in utilities, sites and workforce — helped attract recent large industrial investments.
Melinda Lemon, a long‑time local economic developer, said the county and its partners had invested in industrial parks and utility capacity over decades so the area would be ready when companies evaluated sites. Lemon said a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and SK On (a battery manufacturing project referenced in testimony) represents a multibillion‑dollar capital investment in northwest Georgia; she also cited Hanwha Q Cells’ $2 billion integrated solar panel manufacturing investment and the purchase of nearly 1,950 acres for a data center complex (SwitchKeep 2).
Lemon reported the region had seen thousands of new jobs and billions in capital investment across recent projects, and credited coordinated public‑private work and state partnerships for the wins. She emphasized retained and expanding existing industries as part of the local strategy and noted private institutional investors are active in funding local industrial development.
Committee members thanked Bartow leaders and noted the county’s large manufacturing base. No committee action was taken; the presentation was informational.
