Cole County commissioners awarded a renovation contract for the Cole County Fire Protection District’s Station No. 2 (project 2025-14) to GBH Builders. Staff said the low, and only, bid received totaled $125,880.
County staff explained the Fire Protection District will reimburse the county for the exterior doors and windows and for half of the optional flooring replacement; staff presented the county’s net out-of-pocket cost after reimbursement as $96,080. The county’s capital budget had $120,000 for the project; staff proposed a $10,000 contract contingency for remodel unknowns and said remaining budget would be used for furniture and fixtures.
Commissioners discussed the procurement and agreed the cleanest administrative approach was to award the contract at the full bid amount and have the county handle payments up front and receive reimbursement from the fire protection district. The commission approved the award to GBH Builders and authorized staff to finalize contract documents.
Staff said the building is roughly 25 years old and that the renovations include exterior replacements and interior repairs as described in the bid package. The fire district will reimburse the county per their agreement, and county staff will coordinate selections with the district.
