Proclamations: The board adopted (6–0) a proclamation designating April 20–26, 2025, as National Volunteer Week in Orange County and later approved a proclamation recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Orange County Community Resource Court and proclaiming April 29, 2025, as Community Resource Court Day. Commissioners also approved a proclamation designating April 2025 as County Government Month; staff indicated the county will highlight county services on social media during April.
Appointments: The board approved the following municipal‑planning appointments and reappointments by voice vote (all recorded as unanimous): BJ Warshaw (first full term) to the Chapel Hill Board of Adjustment; Emilio Garza to a Chapel Hill ETJ Board of Adjustment seat; Libby Thomas (first full term) to the Chapel Hill Planning Commission; and Mike Zebayi to an ETJ seat on the Chapel Hill Planning Commission.
OWASA federal funding letters: The board approved adding an item to support letters to federal officials so the water and sewer authority (OWASA) may apply for federal funding that could help with PFAS treatment and clear-well improvements. Chair Jamesetta Bedford said the letters are a timely opportunity because the authority must submit applications by Thursday; the board moved and approved sending the letters and the chair will sign them on behalf of the board.
What happens next: staff will record the proclamations and make them available with the minutes; appointees will be notified and OWASA will proceed with the federal applications supported by the county letters.
