The Building Standards Board on April 3 ordered demolition of a fire‑damaged house at 223 Saddlebrook Drive after staff documented structural and interior damage from a June 8, 2024 fire.
Stephanie Sanchez, dangerous premises officer with Development Services, told the board the single‑story, slab‑on‑grade home sustained heavy fire damage to roof trusses and decking; collapsed ceiling drywall and insulation had filled interior floors; and the chimney flue and supporting wood members were charred and had "minimal support." Sanchez said the property lacked active utilities and that no owner representatives were present at the hearing.
Sanchez said staff entered the property under a warrant to document interior conditions. "A large section of the roof was consumed in the fire, exposing interior to wildlife and the elements," she said in her presentation and recommended demolition under City Code, article 8 chapter 6.
A board member moved to find the property not feasible to repair and to order demolition within 30 days; Anne Weiner seconded the motion. The board voted 6‑0 to approve demolition and the motion included clearing debris and securing the site. The board recorded the property’s proximity to a daycare as part of its public‑safety considerations.
Development Services said it will pursue demolition permitting and abatement if the owner does not act and will coordinate contractors to remove debris and secure the site.
