Stephanie Sánchez, presenting the case for the Dangerous Premises unit, said the structure was inspected after an earlier fire and that interior framing, roof members and finish materials had been consumed or exposed. Sánchez told the board the home’s roof and interior drywall had large holes, insulation and debris were exposed throughout, and key structural posts on a rear porch had been burned through.
Staff reported no recent owner contact sufficient to present a repair plan or evidence of financing. The file shows an initial inspection in June 2024 and subsequent notices; local outreach by staff and a neighbor’s contact with a bank were noted but the property remained unsecured.
Neighbors and several written comments in the meeting record described repeated vandalism, trespass and safety concerns; staff said the property sits near childcare facilities and that the open, fire-damaged structure posed a risk to public safety.
Board member Robert Bankey moved for demolition and to require the property be cleared and secured within 30 days; Anne Wyner seconded. The motion carried 6-0.
Why it matters: The order addresses an immediate fire- and structural-safety threat in a residential area; staff will proceed with enforcement or solicit contractor bids for demolition if the owner does not comply.
