Superintendent pitches ‘Community Share’ platform and Student Advisory Council expansion to connect students with internships and civic learning

Dr. Jackie Clay, Cochise County Superintendent of Schools, presented a proposal to expand a Student Advisory Council and launch a Community Share digital platform to connect educators, students and community partners for internships, mentoring, project-based learning and civic engagement.
Clay described Community Share as a countywide platform where educators and businesses can create profiles, post project and internship opportunities and connect directly; she cited Pima County as an example of a similar program. The Student Advisory Council currently lists about 15 student representatives from schools across the county; proposed funding would cover travel, training, conferences and an anti-bullying awareness campaign the students are developing.
Board members asked whether local government internships could be included; Clay and staff said government and civic-opportunity postings could be added and that the platform is intended to include a range of opportunities (healthcare, trades, business and government). Clay also said the platform could support project-based learning associated with grants such as school-safety tip lines.
No final appropriation or binding contract was recorded in the work session; staff said additional outreach to local school boards and superintendents would follow. Board members offered to promote the program through city and school channels and asked the superintendent to share materials for distribution.
