The Monongalia County Commission adopted a proclamation Sept. 17 recognizing Constitution Week. Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution's local chapters accepted and read the proclamation during the meeting.
Dr. Joan R. Gibson, regent of the Woodburn Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, introduced Becky Davis and Brenda Fisher and read the proclamation, which cited the framing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 and the tradition of Presidential proclamation designating Constitution Week. Commissioners moved and seconded approval of the proclamation and voted in favor.
Commissioners and DAR members discussed bell-ringing traditions associated with Constitution Day observances and plans to mark the anniversary at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17. The proclamation was signed and will be part of the county record.
