Monongalia County accepts $288,366 assault-kit grant; authorizes county president to sign contract and approves several grant reimbursements

County staff told the Monongalia County Commission Sept. 17 that the county had been awarded $288,366 under a Sexual Assault Kit Initiative grant program and presented a resolution authorizing county leadership to accept and administer the funds.
Colleen Grama of the clerk's or administrative staff summarized the resolution, which authorizes President Jeffrey L. Arnett to enter into a contractual agreement with the Division of Administrative Services, Justice and Community Services section and to sign related federal standard conditions, assurances and lobbying certifications. Commissioners voted to approve the grant and the accompanying resolution.
Staff also presented requests for reimbursements tied to existing grants: Community Corrections ($20,145.87), Community Development Block Grant ($1,531.76), Governors Highway Safety Program Safe Communities ($545.79), Click It or Ticket ($195.06), Impaired Driving ($951.59) and VOCA victim-services reimbursement ($8,266.65). The commission voted to approve those reimbursements as presented.
Colleen Grama also reported receipt of an annual check from the West Virginia Foundation (First Foundation) in the amount of $174,003.63 and noted a letter of thanks from the American Legion for county-funded scholarships. Staff briefed commissioners on a Monongahela Conservation District fall awards banquet invitation and a previously signed letter of support for a WVU School of Medicine grant application.
