Police report: Mound officers note spike in stings, recruit interviews, and event staffing

The Mound City Council received an update from the Arnold Police Department on officer activity, staffing and recent incidents.
Police said the city has seen an unusual cluster of insect-sting calls in the past week, including several cases that required use or transport for epinephrine (EpiPen). The department confirmed officers carry and are trained to deploy EpiPens but noted supply and cost challenges in keeping them in stock; the department is coordinating with the fire department to ensure coverage.
On staffing, police reported 15 applicants for the cadet program and 10 candidates moving into interviews; the department said those interviewed would receive training with the goal of hiring some as full officers. The department also said the school resource officer (SRO) program is on schedule for the coming school year and that officers will provide extra coverage for the upcoming Our Lady of the Lake festival.
The department outlined community policing activities, including participation in a DNR firearm safety class and youth-outreach events with the Lake Minnetonka Sportsman's Club; the department displayed equipment and the new canine as part of that outreach.
Council members thanked the department and noted the positive community engagement and the need to monitor public-safety supply needs such as EpiPens.
