The Alexander County Board of Education recognized teachers who completed academically and intellectually gifted (AIG) certification through Northwest RESA.
Danita Dallarevis introduced the recognition and asked Superintendent Dr. Bill Griffin to assist. Dallarevis said the coursework required about 60 hours over the summer, including lesson planning and learning differentiation strategies for high-performing students. She said adding the newly certified teachers is part of the district's goals to enhance its AIG plan.
The board asked the recognized teachers to come forward. Named in open session were Lauren Dula (Stony Point), Christina Lusk (Alexander Central), Savannah Paige Jackson (Alexander Central), Caitlin Davis (Bethlehem), Taylor Gallien (East Alexander), Heather Brashear (Alexander Central), Michelle Robinson (West Alexander), Tina Walker (East Alexander), and Kim Hertzler (Bethlehem Elementary). Board members and attendees applauded the teachers.
The recognition was presented as honors and was not tied to a vote or policy change during the open session.
