Council told safety contract for Skyline Parkway needs prompt approval to start spring work

City staff told the Duluth City Council that a contract for Skyline Parkway safety improvements was brought forward so work could proceed in spring, even though a community meeting to update neighbors was still scheduled.
Public works staff said the item is a contract with Sir Lines A Lot LLC for a not-to-exceed amount of $92,919 for safety improvements on Skyline Parkway. Because the contract amount exceeds $50,000, staff said council approval was required.
Councilor Mayo asked why the contract was coming before a community meeting; staff replied the upcoming meeting was intended primarily to update residents and that much of the substantive public input occurred in a prior meeting. Staff said they would still collect any input that arose at the next meeting and would follow up if new issues were flagged.
