Board reverts proposed Title IX language to 2020 rule set; parent urges district to keep nondiscrimination protections

John Lustig, director of administrative services for Mankato Area Public Schools, told the school board on March 3 that the district is proposing a return to the Title IX grievance procedures in effect in 2020.
Lustig said the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently directed schools to revert to the 2020 rules after a federal judge vacated the 2024 regulations. "Our proposal for you is to revert our policy to be back what it was prior to last fall," he said, describing the draft as a compliance-driven rewrite from the Minnesota School Boards Association model language.
