Staff presented projected employee health insurance rates for fiscal year 2026 and said the district could reduce monthly employee premiums if state revenue projections hold.
At a meeting of the Manassas Park City Public Schools board, a staff presenter said Anthem’s proposed premiums rose about 10.8 percent year over year and Kaiser’s by about 5.4 percent. The presenter told the board the district is planning to cover roughly 83–84 percent of the employee-only premium, above the required 80 percent, to lower employees’ out-of-pocket monthly cost if state funding materializes as projected.
The presenter said the average employee-only premium would drop by about 9 percent under the current projection, and described two lower-cost plan options with higher deductibles that would be available to employees, costing about $11 and $32 monthly for different tiers. A board member clarified those plans are higher-deductible options but confirmed they are not federal “high-deductible health plans” (HDHPs); a staff member identified in the transcript as Dr. Grassman confirmed that characterization.
Staff emphasized the projections depend on bills currently awaiting the governor’s signature and the General Assembly’s final actions. If the governor vetoes related bills or projected funding is reduced, staff said the rates would be recalculated and the savings for employees could change. The presenter said the district will post the final rate sheet once state revenue is finalized.
The item was presented for information; no board action was needed or taken at the meeting.
The board moved on to other business after the presentation.
