Economic Development Update: Agri-tourism, Concerts and Project Green Energy Bankruptcy Noted

Surry County's economic development office updated the Board of Supervisors on March 6 about tourism promotion, upcoming concerts and the status of a private solar project.
The office said it is assembling an agritourism asset inventory for the 2025 growing season and encouraged local hosts to register with the county so the new app and marketing will include their events. The county also previewed a summer concert series scheduled for May through October, with dates listed for May 2, June 6, August 1, September 5 and October (date to be announced); organizers plan musical artists and food vendors in a family-friendly schedule.
On Project Green Energy, staff reminded the board that the county had approved rezoning and a conditional-use permit for the private project; they reported the company has pursued Chapter 11 reorganization in bankruptcy court. County staff said the county is not a party to the bankruptcy proceedings and cannot advise on court impacts.
Economic development staff also noted digital marketing efforts for the Hampton Roads and Richmond markets and invited business owners to participate in tourism promotion.
