Warming center wraps up season; county to store supplies and await permanent shelter grant decision

Amy, who coordinated the county warming center, told the council March 18 that the current warming center season ends March 31 and that volunteers and community partners provided food, sponsorships and other support during the season.
"This is the last month for this season," Amy said. She told the council the county will catalog donated supplies and that staff recommended buying storage to house items the county retained in connection with the temporary warming center. Amy said the county received some funds and that the county paid for certain operating costs; she asked the commissioners to clarify what should be done with donated items and any residual funds.
Amy also said Trent and other staff had submitted a grant application for a permanent shelter and that she expected a decision on that application in June or July. The coordinators plan a volunteer appreciation event after the center closes to review lessons learned and next steps.
Council members thanked volunteers and the county team for running the season and asked staff to return with a recommended disposition plan for donated supplies and any remaining funds.
