Councilman Jones moved to authorize county correspondence and the grant application; Vice Chairman Russell Bridal seconded. During discussion, council members asked where the local match would come from; staff said the capital reserves would be used and reported the reserves were sufficient to cover the contingent match. Council members also debated how much of the neighborhood would be fully relieved by the proposed work; engineers had said the project would address county road runoff and expected relief would be partial and prioritized by drainage needs.
After discussion, the council took a roll call vote. The motion passed with one member opposed. The meeting record shows the county recorded a majority in favor and one dissenting vote from Councilman Tucker. Council members asked staff to provide updates on the application and to coordinate with the Rural Infrastructure Authority; staff noted the application deadline was March 17.
