White County adopts automated road‑management system to speed inspections and work orders

White County commissioners voted to enter a contract with Biolytics for an automated road‑management system after a staff presentation and contractor demonstration.
Biolytics uses smartphone cameras mounted in county vehicles and artificial intelligence to capture images approximately every 10–12 feet, automatically identify pavement distress (cracks, alligatoring, potholes) and upload ratings and images to a hosted web application. The system includes work‑order management, inventory tracking and reporting tools that staff said will reduce subjectivity and labor hours for annual road ratings.
County staff said the system will also help document damage from heavy vehicle detours so the county can pursue higher reimbursement amounts from the state when state‑designated detours cause road damage. Commissioners discussed annual subscription costs — staff cited an annual price in the range of $30,000–$34,000 — and confirmed training and local support are included. The board approved proceeding with the service and subscription.
Commissioners and highway staff said the tool is expected to let the county inspect roads more frequently, prioritize maintenance and produce objective records to support claims and better allocate paving budgets. Staff noted the county would own the collected data; Biolytics will host it on secure servers and can deliver exports suitable for import to the county GIS.
