St. Joseph County approves bond-counsel engagement for potential Park District bond to fund Anderson Road Park

St. Joseph County commissioners voted March 4 to engage Dinsmore to serve as bond counsel for a potential Park District bond to fund improvements at Anderson Road Park and other park needs.
Commissioner Baxmayer, the board president, said the engagement is the next step in a process the county has delayed while ensuring any bonds issued would not raise property taxes. "We made a commitment that any bonds that were issued will not raise taxes. And this is a bond that will not raise taxes," Baxmayer said during discussion.
A county staff member explained the engagement covers legal work related to a bond to assist with Anderson Road Park and "some other miscellaneous items that the park is in need of funds for," and that the contract had been reviewed by legal counsel.
The board approved the engagement following a motion and second. Commissioners Hayden, Morton and Maxeyer voted yes; the motion carried.
The county did not provide final bond terms, a timetable for issuance or a project-by-project spending plan during the meeting. County officials described this vote as a procedural step to allow bond counsel to prepare documents and next steps for the Park District.
