Town schedules April budget work meeting; staff gives broadband, planning-and-zoning, and records updates

Meadow — Town staff announced administrative updates including a posted budget work meeting for April 21, an update from Centricop on broadband trunk-line work, and a planning-and-zoning membership status report.

Staff (Speaker 2) said a grammar/records request about planning-and-zoning membership had been handled on time and that Monica had compiled terms and alternate-member lists. The staff member urged a proactive approach to the upcoming budget season and proposed a work meeting prior to the regular meeting to allow members to "pencil things in" before finalizing the budget a month later.

"So we will post then, that we're gonna have a budget work meeting at 06:00. And, we'll have a regular town meeting at 7, and we can go from there," Speaker 2 said. Council members agreed to the schedule and asked staff to provide the familiar percentage sheet ahead of the meeting in paper or email form.

The council also received a status update on Centricop's broadband deployment. Staff reported the company told the town that the trunk line is in and that Centricop was waiting to send crews to splice the network, after which service could be offered to individual customers. "Once they splice it, then they can start offering it to individual customers. So, we may maybe a month or 2 out. But, the trunk lines are in, is what he told me," Speaker 2 said.

Members also discussed current vacancies on the planning-and-zoning commission and an appeals committee member slot. Staff said the commission was missing an alternate and an appeals-committee member from Meadow; council members briefly considered local candidates.

Ending: The council voted informally to post the budget workshop for April 21 and asked staff to circulate preparatory materials before that meeting; staff will continue outreach on planning-and-zoning vacancies and monitor Centricop's splicing schedule.
