Council approves relocation and lease for cell tower site near city salt shed

The Lewiston City Council voted unanimously on March 18 to approve a revised location for a proposed cell tower on city property near the municipal salt shed and to proceed with the existing lease terms.
Council members discussed a revised site that Verizon requested after originally proposing a different footprint. City staff described the parcel as adjacent to the salt-shed property, with a 12-foot-wide access and utility easement. Mayor Hall indicated the proposed placement would not interfere with access to the salt shed and said public-works staff (Paul) approved the location.
“I guess I’m not sure what you mean by in the middle. Like, it’s between the road and the fence…That’s not gonna cause a problem with access to the salt shed at all?” a council member asked; another replied that Paul had said no. Following brief comments, a council member moved to approve the relocation and lease; the motion was seconded. The council voted aye; the motion carried unanimously.
The mayor said the company had indicated the new installation would improve service and expected the new structure to allow multiple carriers to lease space. The city will notify the carrier to proceed and city staff (Abel Herrera) was directed to work with the company on next steps.
