Genola adopts ordinance establishing Development Review Committee to formalize subdivision review

The Genola Town Council adopted Ordinance 2025-05 to establish a Development Review Committee and to formalize procedures for subdivision and development review.
Town Attorney Josh explained that state legislative changes altered the local role in subdivision approvals and that a separate committee is required to perform technical review. The ordinance pulls the committee language out of the subdivision section and provides more detail about membership, duties and procedures. Council members asked whether the fire chief or a designee could serve as the fire-safety representative on the committee; the attorney confirmed the current drafting allows the fire chief or a designee (including a fire marshal once appointed) to serve in that role without needing immediate changes to the ordinance.
Neil Brown moved to approve the ordinance as circulated (the redlined draft the council received), and Grant Lundberg seconded. The council approved it by voice vote.
The ordinance will be numbered in the municipal code (proposed as Chapter 35, Title 20 in the drafting) and staff will finalize chapter numbering and publish the ordinance text.
