Clarkston council swears in new youth council members

"We're going to also swear them in... when you come up, you need to state your name, speak into the mic, and then tell us why you want to be on the youth council," Mayor Hidalgo said before the oath.
Candidates who spoke at the meeting included Allison Balls, Broden Jensen, Carson Fisher, Lindsay Balls, Logan Fisher and Marilyn Butters. Applicants said they learned about the council through family and friends, and mentioned events and service projects — for example, Allison said she was looking forward to Pony Express Days, and Lindsay said she wanted to help Clarkston "reach its full potential" through community gatherings and service.
After introductions, Mayor Hidalgo asked for a sustaining voice vote to nominate the applicants. "All in favor?" he asked. Council members responded "Aye," and Mayor Hidalgo said there were no oppositions. Clerk Christy then administered the oath and oversaw a group recitation as each youth stated their name. Mayor Hidalgo and council members encouraged the youth to participate in future events and noted they need youth leadership involvement to function effectively.
The nominations were approved by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the minutes. The newly sworn members were told they do not have to attend the remainder of the meeting but were welcomed to stay. Councilmembers also noted the youth council will help with upcoming events, including an April egg hunt and Pony Express Days.
The swearing-in concludes the council's action to fill current openings on the Clarkston Youth Council; the council did not record a separate written motion naming a mover or seconder in the public transcript.
