Staff told the council the shuttle enhancement and public-safety projects are slated to start April 1, subject to contractor scheduling. Council members raised a concern that an external rope design for the new flagpole would wear or fail in high wind; staff presented an alternative internal stainless-steel cable, which the vendor priced at roughly $1,300 more than a rope system. Council authorized staff to specify the internal cable and to proceed with the overall shuttle-station enhancements under the existing project timeline.
Council asked staff to continue coordinating bidding documents with the county project approvers and to provide final contract documents and anticipated finish dates. Council members also discussed installing a taller pole (40 feet rather than the 30-foot alternative) so the flag sits higher and is less likely to catch wind or interfere with adjacent overhead openings.
