Separately, residents and advisory-board members asked about media reports that Penn State was considering campus closures. A resident asked whether Beaver was on that list; a commissioner said the county had reason for cautious optimism because Penn State had announced an agricultural animal testing lab coming to the Beaver campus and because the Beaver campus offers dormitories and other features that may make it less vulnerable. An advisory-board member said the campus chancellor oversees Beaver and Shenango and that consolidation of some administrative functions was already underway; no definitive announcements about closures were reported.
