Commission names liaisons for Thimble Creek industrial-readiness effort and asks staff to draft resolution

City staff briefed the commission on the Thimble Creek industrial land-readiness study, a Metro-funded site-readiness project to evaluate market scenarios and development alternatives for industrial land in the Bull Creek/Thimble Creek area. Economic Development Manager James Graham asked the commission to designate two commissioners as liaisons to work with staff and property owners to refine alternatives, engage major property owners and draft policy options and potential funding strategies.
Graham said staff intends to return to the commission with a formal resolution adopting the Thimble Creek Industrial Land Readiness strategic plan in spring 2025. Commissioners Mike Mitchell and Mayor Denise McGriff volunteered to serve as the commission’s champions and staff will schedule follow-up meetings to draft resolution language and options for funding and public-private partnership exploration.
Why it matters: the effort is intended to coordinate city, property-owner and Metro resources to address barriers to industrial development and to identify policy and funding options that could accelerate site readiness for industrial uses.
