The Kennett Consolidated School District Board of Directors on March 10 approved a package of routine business, student trips, policy updates, contracts and personnel items. Most votes were taken without extended debate and passed by voice vote.
Board actions included approval of meeting minutes and committee minutes from February and March; approval of student overnight trips for the robotics team (Mid-Atlantic District Championship, April 3–5; FIRST World Championships, April 15–20 in Houston, if qualified), the choir trip to the National Association for Music Education event in Hartford, Conn., and the FBLA trip to Hershey (April 6–9). The board also approved personnel changes presented in the personnel report, the monthly bill lists, renewal of a contract with FIC Educational Services, and two confidential settlement agreements with students’ parents (details withheld due to confidentiality).
On policy, the board adopted four items using PSBA model language or revised local language: policy 218 (student discipline, renamed from Code of Student Conduct), policy 218.2 (terroristic threats — new), policy 218.3 (discipline of students convicted or adjudicated of assault — revised), and policy 340 (responsibility for student welfare — revised). The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Octorara Area School District to permit Kennett students to participate in Octorara’s Homeland Security and Protective Services Academy. Board members said the program typically involves a small number of Kennett students annually (board discussion cited roughly four to six students) and uses the same tuition framework as other vocational programs.
Other approvals included renewal of the district solicitor appointment (Fox Rothschild LLP for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028), and an addendum to a 1999 parking-lot agreement with the Borough of Kennett Square that provides 46 alternative spaces at 600 South Broad Street while borough work continues near the high school.
