Reston board accepts Lakes Equity Working Group report and directs staff to map implementation

The Reston Association board on Aug. 27 accepted a final report from the Lakes Equity Working Group and directed association staff to prepare an implementation plan that outlines staff time, costs, timelines and how recommendations would be integrated into operations, with a staff report due no later than Feb. 2026.

The working group’s report, compiled after about 18 months of community engagement and site visits, found that people with disabilities, renters and low‑income households face systematic barriers to using Reston’s lakes. The group recommended changes across eight domains — infrastructure, signage, programs, communications, policy, transit, equity strategies and data and accountability — and urged the association to “count and measure” progress on equity over time.
