District reopens Ezra Baker salad bar, signs fresh‑fish contract; committee notes resignation and upcoming meetings

The superintendent used the Oct. 6 meeting to highlight recent food service improvements and to acknowledge principals as part of National Principals Month.

The superintendent said a new service station reopened a salad bar at Ezra Baker School after equipment replacement over the summer. She also said the district’s food service team signed a contract with Chatham Fish and Lobster to begin serving fresh fish at some lunches, starting at the high school; the superintendent said the district expects to be one of the few Cape districts offering fresh fish as part of school lunch.

The superintendent also recognized principals for National Principals Month, praising their wide scope of responsibilities from instruction leadership to facilities and human resources.

Under school committee business the superintendent announced the resignation of committee member Michael Glenn (referred to in the meeting as Mr. Glenn). The superintendent said that, for now, subcommittee appointments will remain as presented and that committees on which Glenn served will continue with one fewer member until the towns appoint a replacement or the committee revisits assignments.

A member of the public inquired during public comment about traits the committee might seek in a replacement; the speaker asked whether the committee was looking for specific backgrounds or experience. Committee members responded the district has historically had members with varied backgrounds and encouraged public interest in the open seat. The committee’s next meeting is Oct. 20, when members will discuss a possible high‑school field trip and revisit a high‑school parking‑lot policy; the committee also has meetings scheduled in November and presentations in December, including MCAS results.

The meeting concluded with a procedural motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
