The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee on Oct. 6 reviewed the superintendent evaluation packet and confirmed a timeline for mid‑cycle and final evidence presentations and member ratings.
The superintendent presented a packet that includes a memo explaining steps and timelines, a copy of the goals the committee approved Aug. 4, the state-based rubric used to determine proficiency, and the fillable evaluation form committee members will complete. The superintendent told members the mid‑cycle evidence presentation is scheduled for Feb. 23 and the final evidence presentation for April 27, with individual ratings due to the chair by May 4 and a compiled summary to be voted on by the committee by May 18.
The packet highlights this year’s focus indicators and removes or visually de‑emphasizes indicators outside the focus areas. The superintendent said the district will provide a typable PDF of the evaluation form so members can enter evidence and ratings digitally; staff member Sarah is converting the form. The superintendent also said she and staff corrected typographical transposition errors in several focus‑indicator codes and that the corrections did not change the substance of any indicator.
Committee members discussed the rubric’s emphasis on "proficient," noting the state places prominence on proficiency language. The superintendent said the state’s new teacher and principal rubrics explicitly foreground proficiency language and that the superintendent rubric remains in an older format but deliberately draws attention to proficiency.
During the superintendent’s report the committee received a brief preview of budget planning. The superintendent said leadership work on the FY27 budget has already begun and that preliminary joint sessions are scheduled with town chairs and personnel leads in October and January; January sessions are timed to follow release of the governor’s numbers. She noted FY27 will include unknowns such as teacher contract negotiations and other expiring contracts and said the administration has started early outreach to the two towns’ budget teams to smooth coordination.
The packet and timeline, the superintendent said, will support members’ evidence collection throughout the year and streamline the year‑end compilation the chair will prepare for the committee vote.
The committee recessed other item questions to the chair and moved on to subcommittee reports.
