Council corrects legal descriptions for former HRA properties to clear title transfer

MANKATO, Minn. — The Mankato City Council on March 24 approved a resolution correcting the legal descriptions for several properties formerly owned by the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) of Mankato and transferring them to the city.
City staff summarized the corrections as updates to deed descriptions so the city can execute quitclaim deeds. The properties described in the meeting packet included 2010 Fifth Avenue and a grouped correction involving 104 and 106 East Welcome and associated listing of 115 and 117 Cedar Street (duplex). Staff described the change as a “cleanup of a couple of the legal descriptions” in preparation for transfer.
Councilmember Melby Kelly asked that the item be pulled from the consent calendar for consideration and then moved to approve the resolution. Councilmember McLaughlin seconded the motion. The measure passed on a roll call vote with all members present voting yes.
The resolution corrects the recorded legal descriptions; staff said the corrections are technical and intended to allow the city to complete previously authorized property transfers from the HRA.
