County updates: tourism planning, Lake Freeman centennial and innkeepers-tax enforcement discussed

Stan (president of the tax commission) reported the commission will increase its meeting frequency to quarterly to better track the five-percent innkeepers tax. He described enforcement challenges with short-term rental platforms and noted the state provides aggregated collections data but not a name-by-name list identifying which hosts remitted the tax. The commission plans to work with state legislators and agencies to improve enforcement and collection and is scheduled to meet on April 3 to pursue compliance work.
Commissioners also briefly discussed other departmental updates, including community corrections and interdepartmental communication improvements. No formal votes were taken on these updates; staff said they will return with more details at future meetings.
