Commission approves final site plan for Washington County fairgrounds emergency operations and parks building

Hurricane City’s Planning Commission on Feb. 27 approved a final site plan (FSP25-06) for a Washington County Fairgrounds building to house emergency operations center (EOC) storage and parks maintenance equipment at 5710 West Sports Park Road.
The project’s applicant is Washington County; MRW Design and consultant Jeff Mathis (who said his name was on the notarized agent form) presented plans. Commissioners heard that the county previously received preliminary approval and later completed a zone change; the final site plan now provides space for mobile trailers and parks equipment, and includes an assembly/training room with restrooms and showers. Staff briefed commissioners that preliminary site-plan approvals do not vest rights and that the final site plan represents the county’s completed design for the building. Commissioners asked operational questions and noted the new building would replace older maintenance storage on site.
The commission approved the final site plan by voice vote. Commissioners said the facility will serve parks operations and will hold equipment and emergency trailers that support Washington County’s EOC operations; the building includes a larger assembly/training room and public restrooms. No conditions beyond standard staff review were recorded on the record.
