Public works staff updated the council on ongoing sewer operations, the recently authorized flow meter work and related pumping activity.
Staff reported that wires have been pulled and technicians are installing the new flow meter; they expect the state to be satisfied after the work is complete. The meter approved in the meeting is to be kept as a spare on the shelf while the currently installed unit remains in service. Staff said the controller that has tripped will be diagnosed by the vendor and that the component is still under warranty, so repairs are expected at no cost to the city.
On pumping operations, staff said groundwater near the lift pump is down about seven feet and that crews have been actively pumping the site. Staff described recent high-volume pumping activity over the last several days and said they are awaiting delivery and installation of a 3-inch pump that should increase pumping capacity once it is in place. Council members asked for continued coordination with public works to obtain the pump and follow up on warranty diagnostics.
Why it matters: The installation of a new flow meter and reliable pumping equipment is central to monitoring and maintaining sewer operations; timely repairs and additional pumping capacity affect wastewater handling and regulatory compliance.
Next steps: Staff will continue coordinating the pump procurement and warranty diagnostics with the vendor and update council when the 3-inch pump is installed and when the meter installation is finalized.
