The Manassas City Council took several formal votes March 10, approving state grants for airport projects, appointing community volunteers to boards and committees, and approving the consent agenda.
Airport grants and budget amendment: The council approved Resolution R-2025-620 (as presented at the meeting) to budget and appropriate $254,082.65 in Virginia Department of Aviation grant funding for three airport projects. City staff reported the state awards covered: airfield marking and striping (project total $224,375.05; state grant $201,937.55; airport share $22,437.50); removal of manual perimeter gates and replacement with secure fencing (project total $40,000; state grant $36,000; airport share $4,000); and conversion of west-side pedestrian gates to electronic readers (project total $17,939; state grant $16,145.10; airport share $1,793.90). The resolution passed by voice and roll call; Councilmember Vasquez Luna moved the motion and Councilmember Hudson seconded. The roll call recorded unanimous support.
Appointments to boards and commissions: Council approved a resolution making several appointments. Among them: reappointment of Brian Pace to the Board of Equalization (term 07/01/2025–06/30/2029); appointment of Charlie Sweet as an alternate member to the Board of Zoning Appeals (partial term ending 06/30/2027); appointment of Jean Humbrecht to the Manassas Business Council (partial term ending 06/30/2027); appointment of Louis Loarte as an alternate to the Parks & Recreation Committee (partial term ending 06/30/2027); appointment of Jeff McWirt to the Social Services Board (term to 06/30/2029); and appointment of Robert Malden to the Local Board of Building Code Appeals (term to 06/30/2029). The motion to adopt the appointments was moved by Councilmember Ocina and seconded by Councilmember Vasquez Luna; the roll call vote was unanimous.
Consent agenda: The council approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting on a motion by Vice Mayor Wolf, seconded by Councilmember Smith; the roll call vote recorded unanimous approval.
These votes complete the formal actions recorded in the March 10 meeting minutes and staff will implement the grants and update appointment records as directed by council motions.
