County approves surveyor contracts for section-corner maintenance and as-needed survey work

Derek Dieter, the county surveyor, told commissioners the section-corner program has run since the 1980s and that the county is responsible under state law to check roughly 5% of the approximately 2,100 section corners each year. He said the annual maintenance work will cost about $60,000 and will be paid from the surveyor’s section-corner fund.
“This has been going on since the eighties under John McNamara…we have approximately 2,100. And by state law, we have to go out and check about 5% a year to make sure everything is still correct,” Derek Dieter said.
The board also approved a separate professional services agreement with Aben Marsh for as-needed professional survey work, not to exceed $10,000, Dieter said. Commissioners voted aye on both motions and both passed.
