LANSDALE, Pa. — Lansdale Borough’s Administration and Finance Committee on March 5 discussed next steps in a 2025 bond-borrowing process and recommended staff prepare a request for proposals to replace or upgrade the borough’s VoIP phone system.
The committee reported that the borough holds roughly $16 million in cash and that finance staff expect a fuller update next month. Ed Murray provided a bond-borrowing briefing recommending the borough adopt a reimbursement resolution or ordinance to allow the municipality to reimburse itself from future bond proceeds; committee members said adopting such an ordinance would not itself commit the borough to borrow but is common borrowing practice. The committee also discussed delaying borrowing to allow S&P credit considerations tied to the 2023 audit to be resolved.
On technology, the committee instructed staff to develop an RFP to replace or upgrade the borough-wide VoIP phone system, which currently uses rental desktop phones. Staff described that employees use email, chat, Teams, Zoom and cell phones, and that council wants to explore cost reductions and alternatives while retaining a customer-service call center. The scope would include phones used by police, borough administrative buildings, the electric department and other borough facilities.
Committee members said the VoIP RFP and bond-related resolutions will be brought to the full council for action as appropriate; no final borrowing or procurement decisions were made at the work session.
