LANSDALE, Pa. — Lansdale Borough’s Parks and Recreation Committee on March 5 approved moving forward with grant applications that could fund Fourth Street pool improvements and reported construction progress at White’s Road Park, where officials plan to open new facilities by Memorial Day.
The committee authorized applying for a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) C2P2 grant — potentially up to $1 million — and said the borough has also applied for a Local Share Account (LSA) grant that could match or supplement the DCNR request. Committee members noted that if awarded the grant funds would have a three-year window for allocation and that the borough could use awarded funds for other park projects if priorities changed.
White’s Road Park construction is underway, including a full pool renovation and a restroom facility; construction staff said the project remains on schedule for a Memorial Day opening. The committee also said it will prepare and advertise specifications for the baby and intermediate pools at the next business meeting and plans to award the restroom project to the lowest responsible bidder.
Parks officials discussed continuing a beer-garden program at White’s Road Park parking-lot events (April 19 to May 17) and during the summer concert series; the borough collects rental fees and a commission of sales for concert events. The committee said it will coordinate with applicants and may rotate vendor tents. Members also reviewed a complaint about pickleball noise at courts; staff investigated sound-mitigation options and found most soundproofing solutions prohibitively expensive, so the committee will monitor complaints and explore alternatives.
Other items included free county-supported projects: a Montco traffic-safety “traffic garden” for Wedgwood Park and a proposed bioretention (biosoil) project at Cherry Street outfall at no cost to the borough. Recreation registration for spring and summer programs is open and pool memberships were reported at 327 members.
