Calhoun County Schools honor Pleasant Valley student Kyle Griffith and recognize Angela Bonds as state special-education director of the year

The Calhoun County Board of Education recognized two district achievements during its meeting: Kyle Griffith, a Pleasant Valley High School senior, was named the district’s Career Technical Institute (TCI) student of the month; Angela Bonds, the district’s special-education director, was recognized after being selected by peers as Alabama’s Special Education Director of the Year.
Mark Pro of GCI presented the TCI student award and described Kyle Griffith’s activities and honors: Griffith is enrolled in building construction and electrical education, is active in SkillsUSA, FFA, baseball, track, cross country, the National Beta Club and the National Technical Honor Society, and placed first in carpentry at a district SkillsUSA competition. Pro said Griffith has earned certifications in skid steer, excavator and bulldozer operation and plans to attend Gadsden State Community College to pursue a degree in electrical education.
Superintendent Willis and board members praised Angela Bonds for statewide recognition and for leading a large special-education department. Willis said Bonds supervises roughly 70 direct staff and about 80 paraprofessionals who support special-education services across the district; the board noted Bonds announced her retirement and thanked her for years of service.
Ending The board offered congratulations to Griffith and Bonds and opened the floor for brief member comments before proceeding to other agenda items.
