The Lenoir City Council on March 24 adopted an amendment to its employment policies allowing firefighters to convert excess sick-leave hours into Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) service credit, the council heard from staff and approved several routine personnel and administrative items.
Michelle (staff member) told the council the resolution amends the city's Employment Policies and Procedures to allow firefighters — who accrue sick leave differently from regular employees — to roll excess sick-leave hours into TCRS service credit in the same manner the city allows for other employees. ‘‘This resolution does amend the employment policies and procedures that are currently in place... allowing them to roll their excess sick leave hours into TCRS bridal service for their retirement,’’ Michelle said during the presentation.
The council voted to adopt the resolution.
On personnel matters, the council approved making David Mendez a permanent full-time employee of the police department after a six-month probationary period. The chief recommended Mendez for permanent status and councilmembers moved and seconded the motion; the council voted to confirm his permanent employment.
The council also voted to cancel the regular council meeting scheduled for May 26. Members noted the cancellation is a recurring annual practice.
Finally, the council approved payment of properly approved bills as presented.
All of the above motions were moved, seconded and approved at the March 24 meeting; the meeting minutes and the city clerk's office will carry the official records and final certified vote tallies.
