Head Start update: new 14‑passenger bus and six hires noted during audit absence

Aaron Emberton reported to the Cherokee Nation Education Committee on behalf of Head Start Director Verna Thompson, who was absent while an audit was in progress.
Emberton said Verna Thompson asked him to thank the tribal council for its support of early childhood education and noted that a new 14‑passenger Head Start bus arrived recently with roughly 300 miles on it for use on field trips. He added that Human Resources assisted the program in hiring six staff members in the past month but that some openings remain.
Emberton asked councilors to direct candidates for early childhood positions to Head Start so the program can continue filling vacancies, and he offered to carry any committee questions back to Thompson while the audit continues.
