SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City School District on March 18 postponed a final decision about reconfiguring Nibley Park from a K–8 to a K–6 school after board members, staff and community representatives raised concerns about the timetable, staffing impacts and family notice.
Superintendent Doctor Grant told the board the district’s recommendation is to reconfigure Nibley Park to K–6 because, he said, the school has not attracted enough students over two decades to sustain the middle‑school program envisioned when it was created: “There are just not enough interested families to want to populate that program enough that we're able to provide the middle school program that was envisioned,” Grant said.
The issue reached the board’s action agenda after the policy subcommittee returned G5 administrative procedures to the full board. The change would affect course offerings, teacher placements and where current Nibley Park seventh‑ and eighth‑grade students would attend middle school.
