Gretel Navell was elected chair of the Littleton Environmental Stewardship Board and Hannah Kite was elected vice chair during the board’s transitional meeting, with both appointments approved unanimously by members present.
The two leadership votes were held after members nominated candidates and allowed nominees to accept. Colleen Norton, Littleton city clerk, explained the chair’s responsibilities: “You basically run the meeting. You call a meeting to order. You follow down the agenda. You make sure that we're timing folks for public comment.” Norton added that staff will support chairs and vice chairs, and that the vice chair will often take high-level notes for summaries to share with city council.
Board members nominated Navell for chair; the motion and second were made during the meeting and the appointment passed with a tally reported as 5 to 0. Hannah Kite was nominated and confirmed as vice chair later in the meeting by the same unanimous margin.
Norton and sustainability coordinator Laura Rosenbaum emphasized that advisory boards at Littleton do not take legislative action but operate by consensus, and that the chair and vice chair will work closely with staff on agendas, study-session presentations to council, and meeting summaries. Norton said staff prefers in-person attendance when possible and noted the clerk’s office and staff will handle posting and meeting logistics.
The newly elected officers will immediately assume leadership duties for future meetings and will be the primary liaisons with staff on agenda development and speaker management.
